Artist Biography
Mya Evans is an artist from the DFW area, she began her dance journey in church at the age of three and has been cultivating her artistic experience ever since. She has trained in various styles like Liturgical dance, traditional drill, African, Afro-Fusion, Hip hop, Majorette, Heels, Modern, Jazz, and Ballet. Mya is a graduate from Texas Women's University with her B.A. in Dance. She is currently dancing with Beckles Dancing Company and teaching dance at GWC STEM Learning Center where she also acts as the aristic director of the schools dance company, GWC Constellations. Outside of teaching and performing Mya is working on an ever growing thesis under the umbrella term "Black Is Love". Currently two versions of this work exsist. "Black is Love: The Excerpt" & "Black Is Love: The Synopsis", this is the most recent version of this work, it was performed for a local program called SEEDS. She used this show as an opportunity to promote Melanin, a clothing brand she was asked to be a brand ambassador for, expanding her understanding of directing and producing art. Mya also has a production company High Caliber Divisons. The companies vision is to, "Evolve the perspective of people of the African Diaspora in media through all lenses." The production company has four focuses; Dance, Media, Fashion, & Music. It is through all these avenues that Ms.Evans is working to provide service, cultivate community and make dance education more accessible to all. Mya Evans plans to continue to work towards dancing, producing, choreographing, and learning about dance all over the world.
